Joel Groft, DC first opened the doors to Athens Chiropractic Healthcare in May of 2004.

Joel Groft has his own success story to tell regarding chiropractic care. As a middle school wrestling athlete, Joel injured his back and found himself in excruciating and irreconcilable back pain. A friend recommended he see a chiropractor and days later, he was stunned to not only compete again but win his next match.

While he did not know at the time that he would one day become a chiropractor, the experience left an indelible mark.

The next years saw Dr. Groft pair his passion for athletics with his intrigue for science. Enrolled at Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania, Joel competed on the wrestling team while earning his Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

A Natural Born Educator

Knowing he liked helping people learn and think about new ideas Joel began teaching high school biology and earth science at Lancaster Catholic High School. For several years he helped his students excel in a subject that is not typically a favorite nor the easiest in school.  As assistant varsity coach to the wrestling and football teams, Joel shared his growing knowledge of sports fitness and well-being.

The Road to Chiropractic Care

Teaching was rewarding, but Dr. Groft made a life-changing decision when he moved to Portland, Oregon to attend Western States Chiropractic College. Portland was a mecca for the cyclist, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts and Joel knew his calling was helping people feel better with the subtle use of his hands.

Committed, Joel received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree, magna cum laude, in 2002.

With some experience under his belt and newlywed, Dr. Joel Groft and his wife moved to Atlanta where Kristine worked in public relations in the auto racing industry. Not impressed, however, with the hustle and bustle of the big city, Joel and Kristine found Athens, with cycling teams and coffee shops, the perfect place to call home.

In 2004, Joel Groft, D.C. first opened the doors to Athens Chiropractic Healthcare. The first years of practice were combined with Dr. Groft teaching Anatomy and Physiology at Athens Technical College where he enjoyed introducing students to the structure and function of the human body.

Dr. Groft continuously researches and attends conferences and training sessions to advanced his knowledge and techniques so that he can provide the most current and impactful care for his patients. He is the only full-body Active Release Technique certified clinician in the area.

In 2017, he completed his TPI certification offered by Titleist to work with golfers of all levels.
